Directional Analysis of the Radio Wave Propagation through Foliage
نویسندگان
چکیده
This technical document is a preliminary report on the study of the foliage influence on the radio wave propagation in cellular scenarios. The purpose is to evaluate the dispersion and attenuation caused by vegetations in mobile radio channels, hence we employed a channel sounder to measure received signals behind dense vegetations in the rural areas in Kanagawa, Japan. The transmitter sends a 50 MHz OFDM signal with a settable FFT window at 2.2 GHz. At the receiver a cylindrical array antenna composed of 4 rings of patched elements was used to collect the received propagation paths through the array antenna switch. The preliminary results of the channel dispersion are delivered here, whereas the ultimate goal of this study is to evaluate or modify the existing empirical and analytical propagation through vegetation prediction models.

With the rapid growth of indoor wireless communication systems, the need to accurately model radio wave propagation inside the building environments has increased. Many site-specific methods have been proposed for modeling indoor radio channels. Among these methods, the ray tracing algorithm and the finite-difference time domain (FDTD) method are the most popular ones. The ray tracing approach ...
متن کاملA Parametric Foliage Path-Loss Model
Estimation of coherent and incoherent radio frequency (RF) signal attenuation through foliage is of great importance for a number of radar and communication problems. At UHF band and higher frequencies foliage presents a complex environment for electromagnetic waves in terms of scattering and wave propagation. For most applications, dealing with complex foliage models that account for single an...
متن کاملRadio Wave Propagation Through Vegetation
Vegetation is an indispensable feature of most outdoor wireless channel environments. The interaction between radio waves and vegetation has been researched for several decades. Because of the complex structure of the foliage, composed of randomly oriented trunks, branches, twigs and leaves, the involved physical process in the propagation of the radiowave through vegetation is complex. Accurat...

متن کاملNUMERICAL MODELING OF DIFFRACTION THROUGH A BREAKWATER GAP
Wave diffraction is a very important phenomenon in marine engineering and several models have been developed for its simulation. The new version of SWAN, a third generation spectral model, includes an approximation to wave diffraction. The approximation is based on the mild-slope equation for refraction and diffraction, omitting phase information. The objective this paper is to evaluate the per...
